Research

Christopher Kerr's research is focused on the application of large-scale high-performance computing systems for climate-weather models. His research is accomplished by developing collaborations between the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory and the National Laboratories at the Department of Energy. He has an extensive background in performance analysis, optimization, tool design and utilization, and software design for large-scientific applications. He has an extensive working knowledge of computer languages and compiler optimization techniques and expertize in both distributed and shared memory programming models.

His current research is focused on:

  • Development of the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory Prototype Ultra High-Resolution Global Climate-Weather Model at Argonne National Laboratory
  • Improving Tropical Cyclone Prediction Models under the Global Model Development Team Hurricane Forecast Improvement Program
  • Advanced Coupling Atmosphere-Wave-Ocean Modeling for Improving Tropical Cyclone Prediction Models under the National Oceanographic Partnership Program
