Locally Written Modules

A large number of Explorer modules (59) have been written at NOAA's Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL), ranging from data ingestion to lattice manipulation to geometry generation. Some of these modules deal, in particular, with the manipulation of data from atmospheric numerical prediction models. Feel free to browse through a presentation of the module control panels and "help" files. Users may be especially interested in ReadNC, a robust module for ingestion of netCDF data. Also, check out the module.credit file to see some examples of the images we've been creating with Explorer.

The modules are available via FTP from GFDL's FTP site. Most of the modules are written in C, but there are also a few modules written in FORTRAN, including several which deal specifically with manipulation of atmospheric model data. For those of you who program in FORTRAN, these should also prove to be valuable examples, as there are generally few FORTRAN examples available. Get the README file and, if things look interesting, download the tar archive file. If you already have an earlier version of these modules (V3.0 is the latest) then please take a look at the CHANGES file.

Please note that although these modules are freely available, there is a license agreement that you should read. Also, please let us know if you grab these modules, and drop us a line if you find them useful, confusing, inadequate, or broken.

See our list of modules with descriptions.
