Image Viewing
The best programs for quickly viewing images include XV, ImageMagick, ImgView, and maybe BIT. Here is a summary of the major formats they read:
| SGI RGB | GIF | JPEG | TIFF | PNG | PhotoCD | PostScript (3) | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| XV | |||||||
| ImageMagick | |||||||
| ImgView | |||||||
| BIT |
1: XV and ImgView may have some difficulty reading
certain JPEG files (those using progressive encoding) so try
ImageMagick instead if there's a problem.
2: ImgView may have some difficulty reading certain GIF files,
especially those produced by ImageMagick using its GIF rather
than GIF87 save format.
3: See the Printing
page for additional information about dealing with PostScript files.
