In MOM 1 and the Cox versions of the model, $\rho_\circ$ was set to $1.0\,\mbox{g}\,\mbox{cm}^{-3}$ (a difference of $3.5\%$ relative to the accepted value of $1.035\,\mbox{g}\,\mbox{cm}^{-3}$) to eliminate a few multiplies in the momentum equations for reasons of computational speed. MOM 2 and subsequent versions use $\rho_\circ=1.035\,\mbox{g}\,\mbox{cm}^{-3}$.
