Jonathan Wynn Smith, Ph.D.
My research interests are centered around lightning, to include its overall impact on climate, whether that is evaluating observed space-based polar and geostationary lightning frequency in contrast to GFDL’s Atmospheric models, assessing different lightning frequency parameterizations, or examining how cloud-to-ground flash ignite wildfires. All of these will inform development of lightning frequency and lightning-induced nitrogen oxide parameterizations, and estimates of tropospheric ozone and methane.
