Elena Shevliakova
Group: Climate and Ecosystems
Position: Physical Scientist
I am a Physical Scientist at GFDL and a co-leader of the GFDL Land Working Group, responsible for the development of the land components of GFDL’s climate and Earth system models (ESMs). Since 2018, I have served as a Deputy Leader of the GFDL Biogeochemistry, Atmospheric Chemistry, and Ecosystems Division. I was a Convening Lead Author of the IPCC special report on climate change, desertification, land degradation, sustainable land management, food security, and greenhouse gas fluxes in terrestrial ecosystems. I was also a member of the U.S. Government Review expert Panel for the Working Group 1 IPCC sixth report and the Synthesis report. My research has centered on the development and application of mechanistic land models and ESMs capturing ecological, hydrological, and biogeochemical processes underlying land-climate interactions. I have also actively contributed to research on the implication of perturbations of terrestrial carbon cycling for the climate system.
