GFDL Celebrates 6 Researchers on Highly Cited Researchers 2020 List
Once again, GFDL is home to six scientists who were recognized on the Web of Science Group’s 2020 list of “Highly Cited Researchers”. The highly anticipated annual list identifies researchers who demonstrated significant influence in their chosen field or fields through the publication of multiple highly cited papers during the last decade. This determination is based on papers published and cited during 2009-2019 and ranked in the top 1% by citations.
Scientific papers are categorized into 21 fields of science. GFDL scientists Tom Delworth, Stephen Griffies, Larry Horowitz, and Andrew Wittenberg, are listed for Geosciences; John Dunne and Vaishali Naik are named for “cross-field” impact, reflecting their highly cited publications that span across multiple scientific fields. David Pendlebury, Senior Citation Analyst at the Institute for Scientific Information at Clarivate said: “In the race for knowledge, it is human capital that is fundamental and this list identifies and celebrates exceptional individual researchers at GFDL who are having a great impact on the research community as measured by the rate at which their work is being cited by others.”
The 2020 list of “Highly Cited Researchers” includes 14 NOAA scientists. No other NOAA lab has as many influential scientists. The full list of scientists from 60 countries are affiliated with more than 1,000 different institutions world-wide.
